ARMED robberies are on the increase countrywide, with a manhunt being launched for six armed robbers who allegedly pounced on Pircy Farm in Goromonzi District recently.

A gang of six armed men attempting to conceal their identities by covering their faces were caught on CCTV in Goromonzi on Sunday, foiling their plans to remain anonymous.

According to the police, the suspects pounced on the farm and made off with US$3 000, three firearms and other valuables.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) National Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed a manhunt has been launched to bring the culprits to book.

“We are appealing to the public to assist with information which will lead to the arrest of suspects who were captured on CCTV while committing a crime in Goromonzi. Those with information can contact us on 0 2 4 2 7 0 3 61 or WhatsApp number 0 7 1 2 8 0 0 1 9 7 0 so that we can fight the crime together,” he said.

Recently, the ZRP busted a suspected armed gang of five, accused of committing a spate of armed robberies in and around Harare.

The gang is also believed to be behind the robbery of US$30 000 on the 28th of last month at Dinwoo Investments in Harare.

With this surge in armed robberies across the country, Commissioner Nyathi has reiterated the need for the citizenry and the business community to ensure they bank their funds.

“We are also appealing to companies and individuals to step up security measures if they are home.”

The government is on a drive to enhance the capacity of the ZRP in combating crime, including providing vehicles to improve mobility and responsiveness, as well as collaborating with other organisations to leverage resources and expertise.
