Major progress recorded on Bindura-Kanyemba Highway upgrade

Story by Tendai Munengwa

THE upgrade of the Bindura-Kanyemba Highway is progressing well as Zimbabwe works to consolidate its position among the top 10 African countries with the best road networks.

The road construction project is being driven by local engineers and young people who have developed strong expertise in operating heavy-duty machinery.

“We are moving with speed as we aim to complete this eight-kilometre stretch from the Parliament traffic circle to Blue Ridge in Mazowe. We have covered the entire mountainous section and opened the dual carriageway in many areas. We are targeting to finish the remaining two kilometres of this phase before the end of the year,” said Exodus Company engineer, Engineer Arnold Jeme.

Previously, travelling through the mountainous terrain was difficult due to slow-moving trucks, but motorists say the upgraded sections have transformed their driving experience.

“Our leadership has done well. We thank our President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, for these works. We are now travelling faster and more comfortably, and accidents have reduced,” said one motorist.

“Driving is now easier. The issue of potholes and suspension wear has been reduced. We appreciate our leadership for the road development,” added another motorist.

The construction of the dual carriageway, along with other landmark projects under the Second Republic, such as the Beitbridge-Harare Highway and the Mbudzi Interchange, has strengthened Zimbabwe’s standing on the regional map, with the country ranked among Africa’s top 10 nations with the best road network in 2025.
