TWO men from Lusulu in Binga District have been remanded in custody after appearing in court on charges of allegedly cultivating and processing dagga.
The suspects, identified as Nomatter Nyathi (48) and Nguquko Moyo (46), were arrested following a police investigation into an alleged arson incident.
According to police, the matter came to light after a dispute between the two men over an undisclosed issue allegedly resulted in Nyathi setting Moyo’s bedroom hut on fire.
Police officers who attended the scene to investigate the reported arson incident allegedly discovered approximately nine kilogrammes of processed dagga stored in four 20-litre buckets and a sack belonging to Nyathi.
Investigations further led officers to a garden where Moyo was allegedly cultivating dagga plants.
The two men were subsequently arrested and charged with contravening Section 157 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Police say investigations into the matter are continuing.
Nyathi and Moyo have since appeared before the courts and were remanded in custody until June 30 for the continuation of their trial.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to combating the cultivation, processing and distribution of illegal drugs as part of broader efforts to curb drug and substance abuse across the country.
