FIVE people have died while 40 others were injured in a road traffic accident involving a bus, haulage truck and a Mercedes Benz in Marondera along the Harare-Mutare Highway this Wednesday.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the fatal accident on their X-platform.
According to the police, 15 of the injured are in serious condition.
The accident was a pile-up involving a bus, haulage truck and a Mercedes Benz.
The bus, which was travelling towards Marondera collided with a haulage truck and a Mercedes Benz going the opposite direction.
The ZRP said the survivors are receiving treatment at Marondera Provincial Hospital.
Meanwhile, according to the festive season accident statistics released by the police this Wednesday, a total of 87 people have died in 1 194 accidents recorded between the 15th and the 26th of this month.
Sixty of the accidents were fatal, while 427 people were injured.
However, the country has recorded a decline in road traffic accidents this year during the period between the 15th and the 26th of December, compared to last year where 1 480 accidents occurred during the same period.
