THE government says the 2024 School Calendar remains unchanged, contrary to rumours circulating on various social media platforms.
In a media briefing in Harare this Wednesday, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Honourable Torerai Moyo said the 2024 school calendar remains unchanged, with the first term set to commence on the 9th of January.
“We have people who were saying schools are opening on the second of January 2024. The correct position is that schools are opening on the 9th to give parents and guardians time to adequately prepare for the new term. And form one students in boarding schools are likely to go on Sunday the 7th to have enough time for orientation,” said Honourable Moyo.
He added that it is illegal for schools to force learners to buy uniforms at the school and implored schools to accept all forms of payment.
“It is not allowed at law for schools to force learners to purchase uniforms at schools. Parents and students are allowed to buy the correct uniforms anywhere. They should also accept all forms of payment and should use the bank exchange rate. They should not demand payments in United States dollars only.”
Honourable Moyo also hinted there might be some changes in the curriculum after a review which consulted various stakeholders in the education sector.
He said the results of the review will be shared with the Cabinet in February next year before the changes are made public.
