Church leaders call for peace ahead of general elections.

Story by Kenias Chivuzhe

CHURCH leaders are reaffirming their call for peace and unity as the country prepares to hold harmonised elections this year.

On the sidelines of the Johane the Fifth of Africa International Church workshop held in Mutare, church leader Arch-bishop Andby Makururu said citizens should look beyond their differences and work towards national development.

“Now that we are facing elections this year, there is need to pray for unity and peace before, during and after the elections period,” he said.

President Mnangagwa is on record denouncing violence ahead of the national elections, while the government has stepped up efforts in the fight against the twin vices of gender-based violence and child marriages.
