BBA set to stage Independence tournament

BULAWAYO is set to host an Independence Basketball tournament with a focus on upscaling awareness on drug and substance abuse among youths.

Khanyisile Sports Club in Bulawayo will play host to the inaugural Independence basketball tournament.

Organised by the Bulawayo Basketball Association, the tournament will be a contest of the best in the Under-20 category.

Tournament organiser Sikhumbuzo Ndlovu said, “Bulawayo basketball has decided to celebrate this year‘s independence with an awareness on drug and substance abuse talking about these under 20.”

“We have earmarked this tournament to leave a lasting impact in fighting these vices within our communities. What we are basically looking at having specialists, people who can bring drug and substance abuse education in these youths.”

“We are realising that a lot of people are indulging in those vices and hosting this tournament will raise awareness on the dangers of drug and substance abuse. We need to be a society that is open. As basketball we want basketball to be a family sport, we want parents, and corporate to see that we are doing an effort to clean the sport,” he added.

Drug and substance abuse has become a national concern with the second republic enlisting the services of various sectors including sports to fight the scourge.
