BRICS summit underway in South Africa

ZIMBABWE is among the countries that are participating at the BRICS summit, which is currently underway in Sandton, South Africa, with Vice President General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga representing President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Leaders from five emerging world economies including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa for the 15th BRICS Summit running from the 22nd to the 24th of this month.
Zimbabwe is among the African countries that have been invited by President Cyril Ramaphosa to the summit.
Speaking to ZBC News, the Vice President said, “I am here in South Africa to represent His Excellency, the President Dr Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa to the BRICS meeting which, as you know, has already started. We will be participating in it from this evening to tomorrow and I will deliver the President’s address.”
BRICS is a bloc of emerging economies that currently make up a quarter of the global economy.
At least 22 other countries, including Zimbabwe, have formally applied to join the bloc.
