ZANU PF candidate Cde Tonderai Mutasa was this Thursday sworn in as Ward One Councillor in Victoria Falls.
This follows a High Court ruling that disqualified Mr Ephias Mambume from contesting due to unpaid rates and water charges for his properties.
Effectively, this development means ZANU PF now has two councillors in Victoria Falls, with one elected through proportional representation.
Mr Mambume was disqualified under Section 119 of the Electoral Act, which prohibits individuals from contesting if they owe a council for more than four months .
The court declared Cde Mutasa as duly elected, reversing his rival’s nomination.
Victoria Falls city has 11 directly elected councillors and three women elected through proportional representation.
Previously recalled by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC),Mr Mambume had filed as an independent candidate before his disqualification.
Cde Mutasa’s swearing-in was conducted by Town Clerk Ronnie Dube, in compliance with the court order.
