Turkey commits to more trade and economic ties with Zimbabwe

Story by Stanley James, Business Editor

TURKEY has revealed a commitment to scale up bilateral economic ties with Zimbabwe through investments, trade and joint ventures in key strategic sectors of the economy.

An engagement between Zimbabwe and Turkey delegation was held shortly after the closing ceremony of the 4th Turkey-Africa Business and Economic Forum with representatives from the two countries being upbeat on future co-operation.

The focus was also on the need to boost the current trade volumes, which reached over US$38 million last year.

The Minister of Trade in Turkey, Professor Omer Bolat spoke on the importance of increasing cooperation with Zimbabwe.

“We would like to reiterate that we are ready to share expertise with Zimbabwe for it to become an upper middle-income society by 2030. On infrastructure, our contractors are all over the world and they can work with you,” said Professor Bolat.

The Turkey-Africa Economic and Business Forum is a platform that offers opportunities for the continent and Ankara to bolster socio-economic cooperation.

It therefore offered representatives of Zimbabwe’s private and public sectors an opportunity to search for strategic investors, attract fresh capital inflows and network on business ideas.
