Marondera tops drugs list

AS the nation makes efforts to deal with drug and substance abuse, Marondera district in Mashonaland East has emerged as the top district in such cases with 701 arrests having been made in September alone.

This came out at a National Drug and Substance Abuse Committee stakeholder meeting in Marondera this Saturday where the stakeholders pledged to work together to deal with the scourge.

Traditional leader, Chief Svosve said, “As traditional leaders, we are doing our best to ensure our communities are free from drug abuse.”

“As ZRP, we are working with communities to eradicate drug abuse,” said the Zimbabwe Republic Police Mashonaland East spokesperson, Inspector Simon Chazovachii.

The government reiterated its commitment to deal with the scourge.

“In our province, we have done our best to involve all stakeholders as we fight drug abuse,” said Mashonaland East Minister of Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Aplonia Munzverengwi.

The Minister of Youth Empowerment and Vocational Training Centres, Honourable Tino Machakaire said, “We are leaving no stone unturned as we are now equipping our law enforcement agencies.”

A total of 843 arrests were made in the top 4 districts of Marondera, Wedza, Chikomba and Seke with crystal meth being the most used drug.
