POLICE have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the gruesome murder of a Harare resident whose body was discovered in a shallow grave at Warren Hills Cemetery.
The suspect, identified as Shepherd Severa, was taken into custody following investigations into the death of his friend, Brian Nandana, whose disappearance had sparked concern in Warren Park D suburb.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), detectives made a breakthrough after recovering a blood-stained Toyota Aqua vehicle abandoned at Warren Hills Cemetery.
In a statement released on Thursday, police said the suspect allegedly confessed to the killing during interrogation.
Investigators allege that Severa used a kitchen knife to slit Nandana’s throat before allegedly sucking the victim’s blood in what police suspect to be a ritual killing.
The suspect reportedly led police officers to a shallow grave at Warren Hills Cemetery, where Nandana’s body was recovered.
Preliminary examinations revealed that the deceased had sustained a deep cut on the neck, as well as a visible scar on the back of the head.
Police say investigations into the matter are continuing.
