THE late Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) Board Chairperson, Advocate Zvogbo Tawanda Zvobgo, who passed away on December 8, was laid to rest at the family’s rural homestead in the Shonganiso area of Masvingo Province.
Hundreds of mourners, including government officials, members of the legal fraternity, ICT sector players and the local community, gathered to pay their final respects to Advocate Zvobgo, who was remembered as an exceptional legal mind and a strong advocate for the growth and development of Information and Communication Technologies.
Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Ezra Chadzamira, described Zvobgo as a dedicated and hardworking individual whose achievements at a young age serve as an inspiration to youth.
“As a province, we mourn with the Zvobgo family following the death of Advocate Zvobgo. He was a hardworking man, considering what he achieved at such a young age. We therefore urge our youths to be hardworking and to refrain from drug abuse,” Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Ezra Chadzamira said.
Chief Charumbira echoed these sentiments, highlighting the late Advocate’s role as a model for Zimbabwean youth.
“Yes, we mourn the passing of this young soul, but we are encouraged by what he achieved at such a young age. To fellow youths, he was an inspiration. We say emulate his good works and work for yourselves and your families,” he said.
At POTRAZ, Director General Dr Gift Machengete described Zvobgo as a leader of exceptional intellect, balanced judgement, and unwavering integrity.
“At POTRAZ, we came to know him as a man of sharp intellect, balanced judgement and unwavering integrity. Those who worked closely with him also knew him as a leader who understood that the spirit one brings shapes an organisation. He entered every room with warmth and purpose,” Dr Machengete said.
Family members remembered him as a kind-hearted individual whose life was cut tragically short.
“As a family, we are devastated by the death of my son. He was very young and kind-hearted. We had great expectations of him, and we will dearly miss him,” said Professor Rungano Zvobgo, his father and Vice Chancellor of Great Zimbabwe University.
Advocate Zvobgo is survived by his two wives and children. His legacy in the legal and ICT sectors, as well as his impact on youth and community development, is widely acknowledged.
