ZIMBABWEAN Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, is in Windhoek, Namibia, to attend the Orientation and Inaugural Executive Committee (EXCO) Meeting of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF).
Advocate Mudenda is the current leader of the strategic lobby team that is spearheading the transformation of the SADC PF into a fully-fledged regional parliament, which is one of the key issues at the meeting.
Regional leaders are expected to address issues on how to reduce dependency on donor funding, including coming up with innovative approaches to resource mobilisation in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
The meeting will also work on solidifying arrangements between EXCO and the SADC PF Secretariat, as well as the election of Chairpersons for EXCO Sub-Committees.
Advocate Mudenda’s presentations in the Windhoek EXCO meeting are also a precursor to the Plenary Assembly Meetings to be held in Zimbabwe, as EXCO will assess Zimbabwe’s preparedness to host the 57th Plenary Assembly Meeting in Victoria Falls from May 31 to June 7 this year, under the theme: “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Effective and Efficient Parliamentary Processes in the SADC Region: Experiences, Challenges and Opportunities.”
Meanwhile, Advocate Mudenda, will take part in the wreath-laying ceremony for the Founding President and Father of the Namibian Nation, Samuel Shafiishuna Daniel Nujoma at the Namibia’s Heroes Acre, followed by a courtesy call on his counterpart, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Honourable Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila.
