FORMER members of Zimbabwe’s security services have been challenged to contribute to the country’s economic transformation after completing a week-long Heritage-Based Training Programme at the Chitepo School of Ideology in Harare.

The graduation ceremony for Ex-Security Members for Economic Development marked the completion of the programme, which ran from July 13 to 17 and focused on strengthening patriotism, national identity and participants’ role in advancing Zimbabwe’s development agenda.

ZANU PF Makoni District DCC Secretary for Gender and Culture, Cde Moses Ruwona said the programme had enhanced participants’ understanding of Zimbabwe’s liberation history.

“We are happy to be part of this programme. We have learnt a great deal, and everyone should undergo this training so they understand the struggles that led to Zimbabwe’s liberation,” he said.

National Vice Chairperson for Operations of Ex-Security Members for Economic Development, Mrs Tsitsi Chekai described the training as an important initiative in strengthening national identity.

“This is a positive initiative, and everyone should participate so that they develop a stronger sense of national identity,” she said.

Senior Researcher and Lecturer in International Relations at the Chitepo School of Ideology, Brigadier General (Retired) Ezekiel Zabanyana said the programme had achieved its objectives.

“The workshop has achieved its objective of decolonising mindsets and equipping participants with ideological principles that will enable them to contribute meaningfully towards national development,” he said.

Graduates were encouraged to apply the knowledge and values gained during the programme to support Government development initiatives, promote economic productivity and contribute to building a resilient and prosperous Zimbabwe in line with Vision 2030.
