ZIMBABWE’S whitewater rafting team received a heroes’ welcome on Wednesday after returning from the 2026 World Rafting Cup Series in Kenya, where they finished fourth in Africa and seventh in the world.

The team arrived through the Victoria Falls Border Post after a demanding overland journey to and from Sagana, Kenya, where they competed against some of the world’s leading whitewater rafting nations.

Supporters gathered to celebrate the team’s achievement, describing the performance as a significant milestone for Zimbabwean sport.

“We are proud of our whitewater rafting team. They flew the Zimbabwean flag high in Kenya and showed the world what our athletes are capable of. Their performance is an inspiration to young people who dream of representing the country one day,” one supporter said.

Another supporter praised the team’s resilience and teamwork.

“Welcome back, champions! Even beyond the results, the team’s determination and teamwork have put Zimbabwe on the global map in whitewater rafting. They proved that with dedication, Zimbabwe can compete with the very best,” the supporter said.

The strong performance has also earned Zimbabwe an invitation to compete at another international whitewater rafting tournament in Brazil later this year.

Team leader Philani Moyo thanked Zimbabweans for their unwavering support during the competition and said the team was eager to build on its success.

“On behalf of the team, I would like to thank every Zimbabwean who supported us throughout our campaign in Kenya. Your encouragement inspired us to compete with pride. We are excited to have received an invitation to compete in Brazil and look forward to flying the Zimbabwean flag even higher,” he said.

Zimbabwe’s fourth-place finish in Africa and seventh-place global ranking underlines the country’s growing reputation and competitiveness in international whitewater rafting.
