Scotland, Hardrock and CAPS United eye crucial points in PSL Week 22

CAPS United’s fading Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title ambitions will come under scrutiny this weekend when they host fellow contenders Ngezi Platinum Stars in the standout fixture of Week 22.

The clash at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday carries significant weight for both sides, with fifth-placed CAPS United desperate to reignite their championship push after a sharp dip in form.

Makepekepe made a flying start to the season, opening a five-point lead at the summit at one stage, but have since lost momentum. They have managed just one victory in their last 10 league matches, drawing seven and losing twice to slip to 35 points.

A win over third-placed Ngezi Platinum Stars would revive their title hopes and close the gap on the teams above them.

The encounter also adds another chapter to an increasingly compelling rivalry. During the off-season, CAPS United recruited eight players from Ngezi Platinum Stars, along with head coach Takesure Chiragwi and several members of his technical team, setting up an emotional reunion with their former club.

Elsewhere, league leaders Scotland will aim to strengthen their grip on top spot when they host struggling TelOne at Rufaro Stadium on Friday.

Saturday’s fixtures see Highlanders travel to FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium, Simba Bhora entertain Bulawayo Chiefs at Wadzanayi, Chicken Inn host Manica Diamonds at Luveve, while ZPC Kariba welcome FC Hunters to Nyamhunga.

On Sunday, second-placed Hardrock, who have a game in hand, face fourth-placed Herentals in another key title encounter at Rufaro Stadium.

Dynamos, also with a match in hand, visit MWOS knowing maximum points will keep them firmly in contention, while Agama and Triangle United meet in a crucial battle at the foot of the table.
