EGYPT will carry Africa’s hopes into the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup when they face defending champions Argentina in a blockbuster knockout clash.
With eight of Africa’s 10 representatives already eliminated, only Egypt and Morocco remain in the tournament.
Morocco have already secured a place in the quarter-finals, leaving the Pharaohs with the task of keeping the continent’s challenge alive against the reigning world champions.
Egypt reached the last 16 after recording their first-ever FIFA World Cup knockout victory, defeating Australia 4-2 on penalties to make history.
Standing in their way are Argentina, who required extra time to edge Cape Verde 3-2 in the Round of 32, with Lionel Messi and his teammates once again demonstrating the resilience that has underpinned their recent success.
A victory for Egypt would rank among the greatest upsets in FIFA World Cup history and send the Pharaohs into the quarter-finals for the first time.
