National Hero Evaristo Dzihwema remembered for youth empowerment and rural development

MANICALAND Province joined the nation in mourning National Hero Major General (Retired) Evaristo Dzihwema, who died last week in India, as mourners gathered at his rural home in Makoni District to pay their final respects.

Residents described the late national hero as a humble and peace-loving leader who championed rural development and youth empowerment.

“He was a humble man with a deep understanding of economic development. We worked together on various development initiatives where he consistently championed youth empowerment. We have lost a dedicated cadre who remained humble and respectful regardless of one’s position,” said a community member.

Another mourner paid tribute to his leadership and expressed gratitude for the recognition accorded to him.

“May the Dzihwema family find comfort in God. As a province, we also thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa for conferring National Hero status on one of our own. We have lost a unifier who ensured everyone was cared for. It is sad that, despite all efforts to save his life, God has decided otherwise,” the mourner said.

The body of the late National Hero was airlifted to Harare on Sunday ahead of his burial at the National Heroes Acre on Monday
