ZIMBABWEAN long jump sensation Tafadzwa Chikomba has been named the United States Collegiate Men’s Field Athlete of the Year following a record-breaking season with Kansas State University.

The prestigious accolade, presented by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, makes Chikomba the first male athlete in Kansas State University history to receive the honour.

The award caps an outstanding campaign in which the Zimbabwean athlete established himself as one of the leading performers in American collegiate athletics.

Chikomba’s season reached its pinnacle at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Oregon, where he claimed gold with a wind-legal leap of 8.37 metres. The jump was the longest winning mark recorded at the championships since 2018.

The Zimbabwean also completed a clean sweep of the Big 12 Indoor and Outdoor Championships, securing both titles and further underlining his dominance in the long jump discipline.

His impressive performances throughout the season also earned him the Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year award.

The national honour crowns a landmark year for Chikomba, who now turns his attention to international competition as he continues his emergence among the world’s elite long jumpers.
