DEFENDING champions Scottland tightened their grip on top spot in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after securing a crucial 2-0 victory over Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab Stadium this Saturday.

The victory takes Mabviravira to 40 points and strengthens their position at the summit following CAPS United’s 2-1 defeat to Herentals.

Elsewhere, TelOne and MWOS shared the spoils in a 1-all draw, while FC Hunters edged Simba Bhora 2-1 to collect maximum points.

In Bulawayo, Bulawayo Chiefs finally ended an eight-match winless run with a morale-boosting 2-0 victory over AGAMA at Luveve Stadium.

Clive Rupiya and Arthur Musiiwa found the target in either half to hand Amakhosi Amahle a much-needed win and lift their tally to 20 points.

The result brought huge relief to Head Coach John Nyikadzino, whose side had struggled for form in recent weeks.

“It is a huge relief. I am happy with the win and happy to be back winning at our fortress, Luveve Stadium. This result is a morale booster for the team going forward.”

AGAMA coach Godfrey Tamirepi admitted his side failed to capitalise on their opportunities.

Attention now shifts to Sunday’s fixtures, headlined by the Battle of Zimbabwe between Highlanders and Dynamos.

Hardrock host ZPC Kariba at Chahwanda Stadium, Manica Diamonds entertain FC Platinum at Sakubva, while Triangle take on Chicken Inn at Gibbo Stadium.
