YOUNG innovators from Chivaraidze Primary School in Harare have been recognised for their creativity and talent during a science exhibition for primary and secondary school learners held in the capital.

The event, attended by officials from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and representatives from the Chinese Embassy, showcased a range of science projects and innovations developed by learners.

The exhibition highlighted the growing emphasis on innovation, research and scientific inquiry within Zimbabwe’s education sector, with learners presenting projects designed to address challenges within their communities.

Outstanding participants received certificates and awards in recognition of their creativity, innovation and commitment to excellence.

“I am happy to be selected amongst others, and I look forward to improving more of my innovations,” a pupil said.

“This means a lot to promote us to be innovators in such a way of rewarding the efforts we look forward to advancing more,” a learner said.

School authorities said such initiatives are critical in nurturing confidence, creativity and problem-solving skills among young learners.

“As the director of the school, we are happy for the guests who are here promoting and giving confidence to young students to believe in themselves. We are also looking forward to keep promoting these innovators by doing such programmes,” Principal Director Chivaraidze Primary School, Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi Chiwenga, said.

Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Angeline Gata said the awards were intended to inspire learners to continue pursuing innovative ideas and developing their talents.

“The awards were meant to motivate learners to continue exploring their talents and pursuing innovative ideas that can contribute to national development by showcasing their talents at a younger age. We would like to invite all stakeholders to come and partner with us in promoting young innovators,” Honourable Gata said.

The science exhibition and awards ceremony align with the Heritage-Based Education 5.0 model, which promotes innovation, research and practical learning.

The initiative also supports Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 agenda by encouraging young people to develop into future innovators, scientists and entrepreneurs capable of contributing to national development.
