Century Auto Assembly Plant 95% complete as Mashonaland West industrialisation drive gathers pace

THE Century Auto Assembly Plant in Mt Hampden is nearing completion, with investors indicating that the facility is now 95 percent complete and on course to begin vehicle production once the remaining regulatory requirements are finalised.

The development comes as Government intensifies efforts to promote rural industrialisation and decentralise economic activity in line with Vision 2030.

Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Marian Chombo, toured the facility to assess progress on the project, which is expected to strengthen the province’s position as an emerging industrial hub.

Century Auto Assembly Plant Managing Director Mr Mohammud Jammal said about US$10 million has been invested in the project, with installation works almost complete.

“This project marks a new era of modern industrialisation in Zimbabwe. We are now 95 percent complete and are awaiting the necessary Government certifications to enable us to import specific components required for final assembly. Once operational, the plant will produce up to 50 vehicles per shift and create more than 150 direct jobs for Zimbabweans,” he said.

Mr Jammal said the investment reflects growing private sector confidence in Zimbabwe’s industrial development agenda.

Speaking during the tour, Honourable Chombo said the project aligns with Government’s strategy to spread industrial development beyond major urban centres and create employment opportunities in rural areas.

“We are encouraged by the significant progress being made at this facility, which aligns perfectly with Government’s thrust of promoting rural industrialisation and decentralising economic opportunities. Zvimba and Chegutu are emerging as major investment destinations in Mashonaland West, attracting high-impact projects that create employment, enhance skills transfer and contribute towards economic growth,” she said.

She added that Government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for industrial expansion and investment.

The vehicle assembly plant is expected to complement the already operational Bronzepel Gas Cylinder Manufacturing Plant, another US$10 million investment that has strengthened the province’s industrial base.

Once commissioned, the Century Auto Assembly Plant is expected to boost local vehicle production, create jobs and contribute to Zimbabwe’s broader industrialisation and economic transformation agenda.
