HUNDREDS of ZANU-PF supporters gathered at Mutare Teachers’ College on Sunday for a solidarity rally backing the proposed Constitution Amendment No. 3 Bill.
Addressing party members, ZANU-PF National Secretary for Legal Affairs Cde Patrick Chinamasa said the proposed amendments are designed to safeguard Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and ensure policy continuity.
He argued that the Bill would help preserve the developmental gains made under the Second Republic by reducing disruptions associated with frequent elections.
“The Bill elongates the electoral cycle from five to seven years for everyone. This principled stance underscores our dedication to enduring democratic norms,” he said.
Provincial party leaders said the proposed legislation is critical to sustaining momentum towards Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 goals.
ZANU PF Manicaland Province Chairperson Cde Tawanda Mukodza said supporters want President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa to continue implementing his development agenda.
“We want our President to continue his work to 2030 and beyond because the people on the ground are seeing the results of his leadership,” he said.
Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, said continuity is essential for long-term national transformation.
“We are fully behind this amendment because it gives our leader more time to complete the work he has started. We cannot disrupt Vision 2030 with constant elections,” he said.
ZANU-PF Central Committee member, Cde Paul Tungwarara said infrastructure development and investment require a stable political environment.
Women’s League provincial chairperson Cde Dorothy Mabika said the amendment would promote stability for families and the economy, while provincial youth chairperson Stanley Sakupwanya described young people as key beneficiaries of the proposed reforms.
During the rally, two borehole drilling rigs were handed over to war veterans in Manicaland, reinforcing the party’s commitment to improving their welfare.
ZANU-PF National Secretary for War Veterans, Cde Douglas Mahiya said the gesture demonstrated the Government’s commitment to empowering liberation war veterans.
The Constitution Amendment No. 3 Bill is currently at the committee reporting stage, with Parliament consolidating public submissions ahead of its second reading in the National Assembly.
