GOVERNMENT says it has made notable progress in public sector reforms, energy access, digital connectivity and food security, in line with National Development Strategy 1 and National Development Strategy 2.

Officials and development partners met in Harare on Thursday to review progress under the Zimbabwe-United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, which has been in place since 2022 and concludes this year. The meeting assessed achievements, challenges and priorities for the next phase of cooperation.

The review comes as Zimbabwe begins implementing targets under the second phase of its national development agenda.

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, said the country has recorded significant gains across sectors, including health, education and governance.

“We have strengthened collaboration, improved policy alignment and delivered impactful results across sectors, contributing to growth and improved livelihoods,” he said.

United Nations Resident Coordinator His Excellency Edward Kallon stated that the current framework has supported Zimbabwe’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and should guide the next phase.

“The evaluation shows what has worked and will inform the next framework, which must build on gains and align with national priorities,” he said.

The next cooperation framework, set to run from 2027 to 2031, is expected to align closely with national development priorities and budget cycles.

Both the national development strategies and the Sustainable Development Goals run to 2030, with Zimbabwe targeting inclusive socio-economic growth and upper-middle-income status.
