TWO Chinese nationals appeared before a Harare Magistrate this Thursday, facing allegations of defrauding a private company of US$450 000 in a chrome supply deal.

The accused, Hu Wenhuan and Chang Quing, are alleged to have misrepresented to Xusheng Private Limited that they were registered chrome miners operating in Mvurwi and were capable of supplying more than 400 000 tonnes of chrome mining powder within five months.

According to court papers, the company acted on the representation and paid the duo US$450 000 as an advance payment for the consignment.

Prosecutors allege that after receiving the funds, the two accused persons failed to deliver the chrome mining powder as agreed.

The pair were remanded in custody and are expected to return to court on March 16 for further proceedings.
