ZIFA appoints Marian Mario Marinica as new Warriors head coach

THE Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has announced the appointment of Marian Mario Marinica as the new Warriors head coach.

The announcement was made through a statement released by the ZIFA media and communications team on Tuesday night.

According to the statement, Marinica brings more than 25 years of international coaching expertise across Africa, Europe, Asia, and South America.

He has previously worked with top clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Inter Milan, as well as national teams including Paraguay, Mauritius, Malawi, and Liberia.

During his tenure with Malawi, Marinica guided the Flames to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

He also helped propel Liberia to its highest-ever FIFA ranking in June 2024.

His background includes roles as a technical director, coach educator, and performance consultant, with a strong focus on player development and grassroots structures.

Speaking on the announcement, ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi highlighted that Marinica’s appointment marks a new chapter for Zimbabwean football, praising his wealth of experience, modern football philosophy, and proven results at international level.

Marinica is expected to begin his duties immediately, preparing the Warriors for upcoming friendly matches against Algeria and Qatar, along with the AFCON 2025 campaign.
