COSAFA Women’s Championship shifted to 2026 amid host challenges

THE highly anticipated 2025 COSAFA Women’s Championship has been postponed to the first quarter of 2026 due to the unavailability of a host nation.

The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) announced the decision on its social media platforms, citing ongoing discussions with potential hosts capable of meeting the tournament’s requirements.

The regional women’s football showcase will now serve as vital preparation for the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026.

The tournament will move from its usual October/November slot to the first quarter of 2026, with full details to be provided in due course.

The postponement has left Zimbabwe’s senior women’s national football team, the Mighty Warriors, facing an extended period without international action.

The team last featured in competitive action in February and there are no friendly fixtures lined up during the current FIFA international window.
