ZIMBABWE and Russia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cybersecurity cooperation in a landmark partnership expected to bolster the government’s agenda towards digital transformation across the country.
The MOU was signed in Harare this Wednesday on the sidelines of the National Cyber Security Conference by the Government of Zimbabwe and Cyberus, a consortium of leading cybersecurity technology companies in Russia.
Cyberus Managing Partner, Mr Sergey Andreev, is upbeat that the MoU will further spur digital innovations in Zimbabwe.
“We hope that it will yield its intended objectives, as all the parties are more than willing to play their part in driving innovation in technologies, so indeed, we are excited,” he said.
The Zimbabwean government has also expressed commitment to the MOU in line with the digital promotion and growth agenda.
“This initiative also continues to equip thousands of young Zimbabweans with practical cybersecurity skills through partnerships with Cyberus and other partners. Key projects have been identified with a national target of training 100 000 youths to become the next generation of cyber defenders. So indeed, this MOU marks an important milestone in embracing digital systems in Zimbabwe,” Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Honourable Tatenda Mavetera said.
Zimbabwe is embracing cybersecurity technologies to curb cybercrime. Cabinet has also approved the Zimbabwe National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (2026-2030).
