Masvingo Teachers College on Saturday conferred certificates on more than 400 teachers who have successfully completed their studies, marking the institution’s 34th graduation ceremony.
A total of 414 graduates, from both primary and secondary teacher education programmes, were celebrated during the colourful ceremony, which highlighted not only academic achievement but also innovation and transformation in teacher education.
“I am so excited to have received my certificate today. It was not an easy journey. As I step out of this institution, I am looking forward to being an innovative teacher, teaching students to come up with products that will benefit our community,” a graduate teacher said.
“I am now a qualified agriculture teacher, and I am looking forward to being a successful farmer, hence creating employment for others,” another graduate teacher noted.
In his report, the institution’s Principal, Mr Faustinous Mushosho, said the institution is striving to cultivate educators equipped to drive industrialisation.
“Today, we are excited to celebrate our 34th graduation ceremony, celebrating not only academic achievement but also the spirit of innovation and transformation. As an institution, we adopted an inclusive policy which accommodates students with disabilities, nursing students, and the underprivileged,” he said.
The government stressed the importance of harnessing artificial intelligence within the teacher education curriculum.
“As we move into the commercialisation phase of our innovations, we must harness Artificial Intelligence (AI) within our teacher education curriculum. AI is no longer futuristic, it is urgent. It must be used to personalise learning, reinforce innovation, and expand access. Our educators must be equipped to lead in an AI-driven world,” the Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Honourable Simelisizwe Sibanda noted.
“Masvingo Teachers College is a vital institution in the province, shaping the province’s human capital through producing skilled educators,” Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Ezra Chadzamira added.
Several students received awards for outstanding performance in various fields of teaching and learning.
