Government steps in to restore learning facilities in Chivi

THE ZANU-PF-led government continues to prioritise access to quality education through the improvement of rural learning infrastructure, with schools in Chivi Central among the latest beneficiaries.

Two months ago, tragedy struck at Bare Primary School, when a hailstorm destroyed the roof of a four-classroom block, forcing more than 200 pupils to learn in the open.

Now, with schools reopening this Tuesday, dignity is being restored as renovations of the block are underway following an intervention by the area legislator.

“Two months ago, we had a major setback at this school after the roof of our main block was destroyed by a hailstorm. Our children finished the term learning in the open, but we thank President Mnangagwa and his administration for reacting quickly. As you can see, the block is being renovated and all the material has been supplied. We are confident learning will soon get back to normal,” Bare Primary School SDC Chairperson, Mr Girisoni Bonface said.

At Domboshava Secondary School, a new teachers’ house is being built, with the project expected to be completed within two weeks.

“We have been facing challenges of teacher accommodation. With the support of the community and our legislator, we started building a facility for two to three teachers. The main challenge was roofing material, but now we have received it, and the project will be complete soon,” Deputy Head, Mr Chikambure Taurai said.

“We are happy with this development because many teachers were leaving the school due to a lack of accommodation. This project will help retain staff and improve pass rates,” Councillor Typewriter Chiuswa said.

For the local leadership, the initiatives are in line with the government’s policy of inclusive development.

“We thank our President for outlining a vision that leaves no one and no place behind. Our goal is to ensure children in Chivi Central have access to quality education and opportunities like their peers in other areas. As a community, we are committed to supporting this vision,” Chivi Central Legislator, Honourable Xavier Maoneke said.

“Due to many developments implemented by the government in the education sector, we have seen enrolment and pass rates in many schools improving, especially in rural areas,” representing Chivi District Schools Inspector, Mr Muzondo Tindire said.

Beyond infrastructure, the ZANU PF-led government is also prioritising access to internet connectivity in rural schools and establishing business units to further strengthen quality education delivery.
