The Zimbabwe Women’s cricket team, the Lady Chevrons, began their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier campaign on a high note, registering a thrilling 32-run victory over hosts Namibia in Windhoek this Sunday.
In a closely contested match, Namibia won the toss and opted to bowl first, putting the Lady Chevrons to bat.
At the halfway mark, Zimbabwe were 58/2, with Loreen Tshuma unbeaten on 5 runs and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano on 1 run.
The Lady Chevrons’ batting unit stepped up in the second half, posting a competitive total of 133/5 in their 20 overs.
In response, the hosts Namibia struggled to chase down the target, managing to score 101 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Despite a late surge, they fell short by 32 runs, unable to overcome the Lady Chevrons’ strong start.
The Lady Chevrons’ victory sets them up well for their next match against Sierra Leone, scheduled for Monday.
