VETERAN karateka Sensei Mugove Muhambi, who represented Zimbabwe on several international stages, has died following a fatal road traffic accident along Borrowdale Road in Harare this morning.

The Zimbabwe National Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation confirmed the passing of Sensei Muhambi, describing it as a great loss to the local sporting fraternity.

According to an eyewitness the accident which occurred near Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks was caused by a speeding Honda Fit which swerved onto the oncoming lane and collided with a Toyota GD6.

“This happened in the morning and I think the accident was caused by that Honda Fit which went into the oncoming lane where the GD6 was,” a witness said.

“As the Emergency Response Team of Zimbabwe, we want to urge those who are driving to drive carefully to prevent accidents,” Convergence Community Emergency Response Team, Mr Webster Jaricha said.

National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident and called on Zimbabweans to follow road traffic laws.

“This is a call for all the relevant stakeholders to further exercise caution when driving especially in the early hours of any day so in terms of the entire accident indeed it is a true sense of driving carefully that is required,” he said.

The Government and the private sector continue to roll out more road safety awareness campaigns in light of the ever-rising accidents mainly caused by human errors.
