A high-level delegation from the United Nations(UN) Women currently in the country this Tuesday toured Rosaria Memorial Trust in Murehwa, where they interacted with young girls and women from the Magaya community, pledging more support.

The delegation, which is in Zimbabwe to assess how the UN Women and the broader United Nations system can support national development priorities in the country was impressed with activities and developments at Rosaria Memorial Trust, Education and Counselling Centre in Murehwa.

Through support from UN Women, the trust has seen over 200 girls and young women benefitting from Dura reruZivo -Ulwazi Feminist, an innovative initiative aimed at generating and promoting feminist knowledge in rural communities.

“We are grateful for the support. Exposure to information and communication technologies has greatly empowered us as girls from rural communities,” a beneficiary said.

President of the UN Women Executive Board, Her Excellency Ms Nicola Clase praised the community’s efforts and affirmed the delegation’s commitment to Zimbabwe’s gender empowerment agenda.

“This country should be proud that it has such girls and women. We have been impressed by the Murehwa community. We go back to New York with many reflections and we promise to continue supporting gender empowerment efforts by the country.”

Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Itayi Ndudzo says the government prioritises women’s empowerment.

“The United Women has been a beacon of progress in the fight for gender equality and women empowerment. They have introduced several ongoing high-impact projects that aim to empower young girls and women in Mashonaland East and other provinces in our nation. The Feminist Knowledge Hub is evidence of great commitment towards the development of rural information and communication technology infrastructure in our province.”

Zivo/Ulwazi Feminist Knowledge hubs have been established in Mashonaland East, Mashonaland Central, Harare and Bulawayo, with Rosaria Memorial Trust as one of the implementing partners.
