WITH Mother’s Day fast approaching, a local humanitarian organisation is taking the lead in honouring and supporting young mothers across the country through a nationwide diaper donation campaign launched in Chitungwiza.
Founded by Arnold Tinashe Chigwerewe, the Selekta Base Foundation rolled out the initiative to move beyond symbolic gestures by providing practical assistance to young mothers.
The campaign recognises the daily sacrifices of mothers and sends a strong message that their strength, dedication, and often unseen struggles deserve not only acknowledgement but meaningful action.
“Our mission is to give back and empower,” Chigwerewe said.
“Young mothers are the backbone of our communities, and this campaign is about celebrating them, especially as we approach Mother’s Day set for May 11. Together, we can make a difference, not just in words, but through action.”
By providing diapers to young mothers across Zimbabwe, the Foundation is making a powerful statement: mothers matter, and they deserve to be celebrated.
The project kicked off in Chitungwiza’s Unit O, partnering with local talents including Yayha Good Vibes, Volts JT, and a host of Chitungwiza artists to spread joy among the young mothers.
“Seeing the gratitude in the eyes of these young mothers reminds us all why it is so important to celebrate them not just on Mother’s Day, but every day,” one volunteer said.
Building on the momentum, the Foundation plans to expand the campaign into various towns and cities nationwide in the weeks leading up to Mother’s Day.
“This is about more than giving out diapers. It is about restoring dignity, showing appreciation, and creating lasting community bonds,” Chigwerewe added.
What sets this initiative apart is the strategic collaboration with artists, creatives, and influencers across Zimbabwe, who are using their platforms to encourage collective giving and compassion.
“We are also calling on corporate partners, volunteers, and donors to join in and make an even bigger impact. Mothers are the heartbeat of our families and our future,” he said.
