YOUTHS from Zambia and Namibia have arrived in the country and will be part of Zimbabwe’s 45th Independence Celebrations in Gokwe this Friday.

In their solidarity messages shortly after landing at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport this Thursday, the youths called for unity of purpose and strongly denounced cross-border political incitement of violence.

“As the youth of Zambia, and as young people across the continent, we do not support or protect individuals who incite violence or use the guise of protest to insult governments. We stand united in the spirit of the liberation struggle. To those so-called international ‘generals’ inciting violence among Zimbabwean youth, we denounce you. That is not the path forward,” a Senior Executive Member of the Africa Youth Congress, Mr Vincent Sakala said.

Youths also applauded President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership in the SADC region and called for the immediate removal of economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.

The delegation was welcomed by ZANU PF Harare Provincial Youth Chairperson, Cde Emmanuel Mahachi and Africa Youth Congress Chairperson, Cde Taurai Kandishaya who called for unity of purpose.

“Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980 was not won in isolation. It was a collective victory shared with many nations across the region. Our forefathers were united by a common goal, freedom for all. Today, we must carry that legacy forward. Imperialism and neo-colonialism thrive on division, but unity is our strength,” Cde Kandishaya said.

The country will celebrate the 45th Independence Celebrations this Friday with main celebrations being held in Gokwe under the theme Zim@ 45, Devolve and Develop Together towards Vision 2030.
