Government continues with food distribution

Story by Stanley James

Zimbabwe’s food mitigation programme is on track, with government pledging to continue availing food to vulnerable communities until the harvesting period.

This Tuesday’s cabinet meeting reviewed progress in the distribution of grain across the country to cushion citizens against the El Nino induced drought experienced during the 2023/24 summer cropping season.

The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere revealed during a post cabinet media briefing in Harare this Tuesday that 10 percent of the distributed grain came from developmental partners, who saw it fit to complement government efforts to feed the nation.

An update on national drug and substance abuse response strategy was also presented.

Cabinet also reviewed Zimbabwe’s participation at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues in Ghana, which the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira described as in sync with Vision 2030.

Other takeaways from the post cabinet media briefing include the approval of Memoranda of Understanding between Zimbabwe and Rwanda, as well as Zimbabwe and South Africa on cooperation in various fields including youth empowerment.
