The project to construct a temporary market to accommodate traders affected by a fire that razed Mbare Musika in October is on course, with the structure now at roofing level.
The construction works which began early this month have brought hope, with the residents near the construction site expressing satisfaction with the ongoing work.
“This is good the development that is taking place is uplifting very soon we will be working in there where it’s conducive and safe,” a trader told the ZBC News.
Another said, “We are excited to see progress on the project. It is showing how the Government is committed to empowering people and saving the livelihoods of those who have been working at Mbare Musika.”

“People were left stranded and working there (Mbare Musika) was now a bit difficult, especially on rainy days. The structures will provide shelter and security to traders here,” another added.
Once completed the temporary structure will house over 10 000 traders, while plans for a permanent and modernised Mbare Musika are being finalised.
