President Emmerson Mnangagwa has capped over 100 graduands at the Marondera University of Agricultural Science and Technology at the institution’s 3rd graduation ceremony in Marondera this Wednesday.
The 103 graduands who were made up of 61 males and 42 females came from the university’s three Faculties of Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship, Earth and Environmental Sciences and Plant Animal Science and Technology.
For the first time, the university had four Doctor of Philosophy graduands.
MUAST Vice Chancellor Professor Justice Nyamangara said the university is prioritising its contribution towards human capital development.
“As a university we are committed to contribute towards the country’s human capital development through our various programs which we keep on developing,” he said.
The graduands expressed readiness to contribute to the country’s economic development.
“I am very excited that I have graduated and am going to make a contribution in our country’s economic development,” one of the graduates stated.
Another said, “The knowledge I gained from the university are very critical and I will use it to ensure that my country grows economically.”
A total of 36 students from Kushinga Phikelela Agricultural College, an affiliate of MUAST, were awarded diplomas in Agriculture in absentia.
This year’s graduation ceremony was held under the theme: “Education 5.0 – Harnessing Agricultural Innovation and Industrialisation for Economic Transformation”.
