Harare school, Irene Christian College triumphed in Africa’s World Space Week competition which was organised by all National Universities in Ghana and ran from the from October 4th to 10th, coinciding with the World Space Week 2024.
Irene Christian College came first in the Space Science Category, which focused on knowledge of ground station operations, outsmarting 60 other competing schools from different parts of the African continent.
In preparation for the contest, Irene Christian College received training from engineers from the Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency (ZINGSA) who provided them with essential skills to extract and analyse satellite data, enabling them to decode satellite signals and gain practical experience in space technology.
The latest achievement by Irene Christian College highlights Zimbabwe’s growing prominence as a space force in Africa.
