THE Zimbabwe Mighty Warriors have crashed out of the COSAFA Women’s Championship after Mozambique drew 1-all with Lesotho to claim the sole ticket to the knockout stages of the tournament in Group D.

Zimbabwe were hoping for a Lesotho win to have a chance of progressing to the knockout stage of this year’s championship.

However, it was not to be as Mozambique scored a late equaliser to secure a crucial point and claim the top position in Group D with four points.

Zimbabwe finished second with three points, while Lesotho anchored the table with one.

Sithethelelwe Sibanda’s charges began the tournament slowly, falling one – nil to Mozambique before bouncing strongly with a 3-nil victory over Lesotho.

Mozambique will now face seven-time champions South Africa in the first semi-final match while defending champions Malawi take on former champions Zambia.

Defending champions Malawi and seven-time winners South Africa are favourites to reach the final, but Mozambique and Zambia will look to upset the contenders.
