The City of Harare is gearing up to host an international basketball tournament which will bring together top teams from the region this month.

The City Sports Centre is expected to vibrate to some exciting action as the Harare Mayor Basketball Challenge takes centre stage from the 18th to the 20th of October.

The tournament will bring together teams from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, fostering regional unity and promoting excellence in the sport.

So far, three teams from Zambia and one from South Africa have confirmed participation.

“We’re thrilled to host this exciting event, this tournament will not only showcase the best of regional basketball talent but also provide a platform for youth development and community engagement,” said Harare Mayor, Councillor Jacob Mafume.

Beyond the thrilling basketball action, the tournament aims to leverage the sport as a tool to combat drug and substance abuse among youths.

By engaging young people in positive and healthy activities, organisers hope to make a lasting impression on the community.

The three-day tournament will feature a round-robin format, followed by the semi-finals and final.
