THE Algerian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Mohamed Seoudi paid a courtesy call on His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare this Monday where the focus was on strengthening bilateral relations.

In an interview with the ZBC News this Tuesday, Mr Seoudi gave credit to President Emmerson Mnangagwa for spearheading the engagement and re-engagement drive.

He said, “Yesterday, I had a privilege to pay a courtesy call to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and I am very happy that he is driving the engagement and re-engagement drive. We discussed a number of issues including areas of education and then we donated a state-of-art boarding facility which shall be built in Gokwe and we shall be visiting the area next week. We also discussed issues to do with agriculture and we are going to donate food considering that Zimbabwe is affected by El Nino-induced drought. We are also going to donate fertilizers.”

The Algerian top envoy was accompanied by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerai Moyo, who highlighted the importance of international cooperation and collaboration in driving progress and development.

“This is a state of the art boarding school, which will enrol students from Form one to Form six. We are looking at an enrolment of 600 students, at least two computer laboratories, at least two science laboratories. That will also capacitate our students and the teachers. The other significance of the donation is that it will fulfil the aspirations of the people of Zimbabwe, particularly in relation with the foreign policies of our President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s engagement and re-engagement policy,” said the Minister.

Zimbabwe and Algeria enjoy a long-lasting and historical relationship which dates back to the liberation struggle when Algeria provided military support to Zimbabwe.
