The Zimbabwe Under 20 national men’s football team have advanced to the semifinals of the COSAFA U20 Championship after beating hosts Mozambique by a goal to nil in Maputo this Monday.
The Young Warriors are one win away from qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The win took Zimbabwe to the top of Group A with seven points at the 2024 COSAFA U20 Championship, which is also doubling as the AFCON Qualifier.
The two finalists at the regional tournament will qualify for the 2025 Under 20 AFCON tournament to be held in South Africa.
Enock Moyo was the hero for the Young Warriors, scoring in the second half to hand the young lads passage to the last four of the tournament.
In the other Group A match, Eswatini and Botswana drew blanks, as neither team could bury the ball into the back of the net Botswana finished second in Group A with five points.
Meanwhile, the Simon Marange-tutored Young Warriors will now wait to discover their opponents, as they will take on the best third-placed team at the of the group stages.
Group B winners, Angola, will face off with the winners of yet-to-be-determined winners of Group C in the other semifinal.
The semifinals will be played at the same venue on Thursday.
