IN a major score for wildlife conservation, a poacher from Victorian Falls, who was nabbed in Chinotimba’s high-density suburb in the resort city in September last year has been jailed for an effective six months.
The court heard that on 08 September 2023, Somani Nkomo aged 38 years of Chinotimba high density in Victoria Falls moved about 33 kilogrammes of buffalo meat from the Zambezi National Parks to a house in Chinotimba.
On the same date, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department(CID) Minerals Flora and Fauna Unit, Victoria Falls, and Zimbabwe National Parks investigation officers received a tip-off before preceding to the said house where they instituted a search that led to the recovery of the meat valued at US$981.
Nkomo, who appeared at Victoria Falls Magistrates Courts this Thursday, was sentenced to 10 months in prison of which four months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
