Funeral parade for the late AFZ senior pilots

Story by Tafara Chikumira, Midlands Bureau Chief

A funeral parade for two senior Air Force of Zimbabwe pilots who died in a trainer jet crash on Thursday last week has been held at Josiah Tungamirai Airbase in Gweru.

Group Captain Bensen Munyanduki and Wing Commander Daniel Manyenga were flying a trainer jet which developed a fault during routine training and crashed around Kaguvi Training Centre near Gweru.

Group Captain Munyanduki was buried at a private cemetery in Gweru this Tuesday, while Wing Commander Manyenga will be buried at this Wednesday at his rural home in Gutu.

Chief Mourner, Airforce of Zimbabwe Chief of Staff Supporting Services Air Vice Marshall Jacob John said the air force has lost two experienced and dedicated officers.

“It was indeed disheartening to learn that such dedicated, loyal and highly experienced senior pilots were taken away from our midst at the time their services were critically required in the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and the Airforce of Zimbabwe,” he said.

Group Captain Munyanduki is survived by his wife Charity and two daughters, while Wing Commander Manyenga is survived by his wife Nelia and two children.
