A church service for the late ZBC Photojournalist and Online Producer Idah Mhetu, who died on Sunday, has been held in Harare.
The service was held at a local funeral parlour.
To the media fraternity, Mhetu’s death has robbed them of a camera doyen who was always approachable and ever smiling.
“We are at loss as the media fraternity because Idah was so loving and caring. She was ever smiling and approachable and she would share her pictures,” said a colleague.
Another colleague Vivian Bangamu said, “Idah was a friend to everyone, she was so loving and a cheerful journalist. We hope that we are going to give her a befitting send-off tomorrow.”
“Idah was inspirational and when I joined the media fraternity she was the one who helped me and I owe her a lot . We have lost a good friend,” noted another.
Idah who died at the age of 35, has been described as a passionate photojournalist who was dedicated to her work.
Parliament of Zimbabwe Director Public Relations,Don Makubaza said,”We are here to mourn a dedicated photojournalist who was so passionate about her work. She was also passionate about covering Parliament business.”
Her works in the photojournalism world attracted the attention of both the young and old.
The family says Idah has left a void which will be difficult to fill.
“As a family we are at loss because Idah grew up in our family and she was someone who was so helpful,” noted family representative, Mr Eugene Muchirahondo.
Mhetu joined the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation as a photojournalist and online producer in 2020.
Affectionately known as Magumbo among her peers, Mhetu’s body will lie in state at her family’s home in Glenview 3, Harare, with burial expected this Wednesday.
