Bosso lift Uhuru Cup

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Club

A 10-men Highlanders team have lifted the Independence Challenge Cup after beating Dynamos 5-3 on penalties in Mt Darwin this Tuesday.

Mt Darwin town is famous in Zimbabwe’s history for the battles which were fought there to liberate the country from colonial rule.

This year’s Independence Day celebrations saw two of the country’s biggest teams, Dynamos and Highlanders, descending on the town to have one more battle for the Uhuru Cup.

Football fans were thrilled to watch the traditional giants of Zimbabwean football who share 29 league titles between themselves.

To them the day was not about the result.

“I am very happy to watch my team play here in Mt Darwin,” said a fan.

The win saw Bosso lifting the Independence Trophy for an unprecedented 10th time since 1983.
