Zimbabwe urged to open embassy in Qatar

Story by ZBC Reporter

THE Zimbabwean diaspora in Qatar has appealed for the opening of an Embassy in Doha, in a move expected to open up business opportunities for both countries.

A diaspora engagement held on Tuesday evening and chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Frederick Shava in Qatar saw Zimbabweans calling on the country to open an embassy in the gulf state to unlock more opportunities of cooperation between the two nations.

The diaspora community also vowed to contribute towards national development in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s mantra: ‘Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo.’

Ambassador Shava rallied Zimbabweans in Qatar to play a part in the country’s engagement and re-engagement efforts, as well as national development, but investing back home.

Qatar is rich in oil, gas and other fossil fuels, and is currently diversifying its economy through the Qatar Investment Agency to ensure investments in tourism, mining and other sectors.

In 2018, President Emmerson Mnangagwa visited Qatar at the invitation of the Head of State Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and an agreement on economic, trade and technical cooperation was signed during the visit.
