The Second Republic is seized with the need to address the provision of critical economic enablers, particularly energy and power development, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.

In his address, while chairing the first meeting of the 2023 Cabinet Calendar Year at State House this Tuesday, President Mnangagwa said the government has the duty of driving economic development and it must do so expeditiously.

“Innovative strategies are essential for Ministries, Departments and Agencies to overcome hurdles they may encounter as they execute their mandates.

“As the State, we have the inherent duty and obligation to drive the development of our country. Development partners, Civil Society Organisations and NGO’s play a complementary role in supporting Government programmes. As they do so they must observe the rule of law,” he said.

The President noted that the task of consolidating the gains made by the Second Republic continues unabated adding, “As we look back at the past five years of this Cabinet, we have a number of notable successes we achieved.

He also said the Government must be more strategic and purposeful in the manner it communicates the extent to which it has fulfilled the promises made to the people.

“The onus is on us to finish this current term stronger with a great sense of urgency.”
